Anime to Watch in 2018

With the turning of the New Year, we say good bye to some of our beloved anime shows and wait for their scheduled return. For some, like me… the wait is too long and unbearable. While I am happy that some of my favorite shows such Dragon Ball Super and One Piece are currently playing, I find waiting an entire week for the new episode to be released is still torturous, especially when it finishes on an exciting cliff hanger. If you are like me, then you’ve come to the right place as I’ve compiled a list of new anime shows that I find interesting and what I think you should look out for:

Death March kara Hajimaru Isekai Kyousoukyoku – Release Date: 11th January 2018
If you enjoyed Sword Art Online, you would enjoy this anime as it has a similar concept. Suzuki Ichirou is a 29-year-old programmer, goes on an adventure in a fantasy RPG World. When he awakes in the strange new world, he thought that he was dreaming, but quickly learns that what he was experiencing was very real.

Beatless- Release Date: 13th January 2018
The anime series is futuristic where society is operated by humanoid robots (hIE). When an ultra-advanced AI was created using materials that were far too advanced for human technology, its intelligence quickly surpassed that of a human being. Lacia, one of the protagonists in the anime happened to be one of these. She later meets Arato Endo, a 17-year-old boy who questions and searches for answers regarding coexistence between humans and the humanoid robots.

Darling in the Franxx- Release Date: 13th January 2018
Set in the distant future, humanity has established and built a mobile fort city- Plantation. One of the residence facility, is called Mistilteinn, also called ‘bird cage’. The children who live there have no knowledge of the outside world. Their purpose was to learn how to fight and defeat mysterious giant life-forms name the Kyouryuu. In order to defeat them, they pilot robots called Franxx. A boy named Hiro is called Code:016, and he was once known as a prodigy. However, he has fallen behind as he was unable to pilot a Franxx. To them, not piloting a Franxx is the same as ceasing to exist (they found him unnessary). One day, a mysterious girl known as “Zero Two” appears before him. Two horns grow out of her head.

Kakuriyo no Yadomeshi- Release Date: Spring 2018
Aoi Tsubaki, a university student has the ability to see spirits just like her late grandfather. One day, she was swept away into the underworld by a demon-god and was informed of her grandfather’s debt. As she agrees to work for him as a cook in order to pay off her grandfather substantial loan and return to the land of the living.

Arifureta Shokugyou de Sekaisaikyou- Release Date: April 2018
Hajime Nagumo is an ordinary student with no ambition or aspiration in life. One day he and his classmates were summoned into a different world where they were treated like heroes. They were tasked with the duty of preventing the extinction of the human race. The task may seem to be easy for Hajime’s classmates as they possessed godlike powers however, Hajime had a simple transmutation skill. Being the weakest of the bunch, he is often bullied and is pushed into an abyss within a labyrinth during a dungeon exploration. While inside the maze, he eventually finds a way out and meets a vampire name Yue.

As I’ve mentioned before, these are a few anime shows that have caught by attention but I am still waiting the return of some heavy weight hitters that don’t need any introductions.
