OUYA The New Kid on the Block

As of late many gamers around the world have been longing for a console that has no restrictions and easily available for wanna be developers. Then to my surprise I found this interesting video. It is about Ouya. A new console for everyone with a mind for creating a new ecosystem for the video game industry. Over at Caribbeangamer.com we have heated discussions about the way gaming is going. With the sudden rise in mobile gaming many have abandon handheld gaming devices and use their iPad or Smartphone. The only reason why most hardcore gamers have not totally crossed over is because no one want to abandon the comfort of playing on a big screen. I love playing my games on my TV. Well Ouya is about to do the impossible. They are going to go up against the holy trinity of gaming. They literally encourage hackers to do whatever they want with the console. I personally agree to that. I mean you bought the machine. It is yours to do what you want. Build games for it. Be creative. Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo make it hard for young developers to step out and see if their game will be loved by the gaming market.

Over at Kotaku.com there is a in depth blog of the progress of Ouya.

Now if you don’t want to check that out here is the skinny on ouya.

As of now they were asking for $950,000 to help fund their $99 console. In about 8 hours they reached that goal. Which shows the enthusiasm from indie developers. Now here is the catch. Will they make a big splash with AAA developers. They don’t have big games like Halo or Uncharted. So will they be able to create a huge install base. We already know with the Android OS there will be many indie type games available. The creator already said that with the money raised she will have her own team to develop AAA type games to show off the potential of this new console. We can look for this console in March 2013.  With a $99 price point and already open market for great free games what can go wrong…

I know. I feel that this may be a new era in mobile gaming. This is what I like. Being a programmer and understanding how important it is to give people like me a chance…
